You have got to be kidding me! There is a new report released out of Great Britain. Doctors there claim that the extra daily fat from eating a Quarter Pounder with cheese can be off set by taking a statin drug. I must say that I am amazed that medical doctors are making this recommendation. It is as if people are going to eat the hamburger anyway, so lets through in some drugs to counter act. I feel it would be better to teach people how to choose a healthier meal instead of adding pills. The report equates statin drugs to wearing a seatbelt while driving a car, but a seatbelt does not have side-effects because your wearing it while driving. A statin drug, on the other hand, can cause liver damage, muscle pain, muscle weakness, and memory loss.
We have become a society that runs to the pill box to fix everything. There is a time and place to use drugs like statins, but to say that we should offer them with a Happy Meal is out right ridiculous. Taking a balanced approach to food and general nutrition can have a greater impact on your overall health and happiness rather than be weighed down by popping pills with every Happy Meal.
Please understand that I am not recommending anyone stop taking medications a doctor has prescribed, however taking a statin as a daily vitamin has to be one of the craziest recommendations I’ve ever heard.
(The Picture above is a Happy Meal that was left sitting on display for 1 Year. It looks like it just came out from under the heat lamp. How can bread not mold?)
The Holidays are coming! The Holidays are coming! It is that time of year that more candy, buffet meals, and over eating take place while our exercise levels drop. This usually causes the the normal cycle of people gaining weight during the holidays and trying to remove the unwanted weight in January. Jan 1st rolls around and we start seeing all the weight-loss advertisements go into high gear. I believe that I can change this for myself and I goal to maintain my weight through the holidays. We don’t have to be antisocial and draw undue attention to our eating habits. It is all in portions and how many we have. The buffet is always the hardest for me because I have this big empty plate that I need to pile full of food. I now try to grab Continue Reading
I am taking my family on vacation in the next couple of weeks to the magical land of Disney World. We are all excited and the kids each have a plan of what they plan to ride and the shows they want to watch. My wife and I are completing our 1st round of Insanity the day that we leave so this got be wondering how should I plan my diet and fitness on vacation. I know many people have this same question so I will tell you what I plan to do on my vacation and some of the things I have done in the past.
1st and foremost I always remember this is a vacation and I am meant to relax and get away from the stress of what might be happening at work or other areas of my life. Stress can be have a big effect on your weight-loss. Stress can increase cortisol levels and trigger a flight or fight response. It is important to relax and de-stress just as much as having an exercise plan.

* “I have tried a lot of protein shakes and meal-replacement-type drinks, and Shakeology is the best tasting of them all. I mix it with a bit of soy milk and ice, and it tastes like an ice cream shake!”
Here’s what the doctor who ran the study observed about the participants:* Continue Reading
I get asked how to over come plateaus and it always comes back to the basics of weight loss. So many of my people that I help have to increase the calories that they consume before their weight loss starts again. Here is a video from Steve Edwards that explains all the basics that you need for weight loss.
When was the last time you read the ingredients of the food you have in your kitchen? When I began learning about nutrition, I focused on the Nutrition Facts and namely, the calories. While Nutrition Facts and calories are important, the ingredients used to produce the food is even more important. When reading a food label, one should beware of Continue Reading
How many times during the week do you eat a dessert after a meal? If you are like most americans then you probably said more than once a week. We as a culture have come to expect and even demand a sweat treat at the end of certain meals. This is especially true when we go out to our favorite restaurant. The problem with this is that the sweat treat is killing us slowly. Desserts should be a treat and not a common part of the meal that feels like we have left something out when we don’t get it. The next time you have dinner try to push away that cheesecake.
I have read this post many times and it inspires me everytime I read it. I hope it will inspire you too.
